yes, they were band geeks.
These are my favorite pics from middle school band...*sigh**...I miss those band days!
So, when my sister asked me to make something for her two boys' high school band fundraiser to auction off for much needed funds (a band program always needs money...lots of money)......
Of course, I said I would.
What are Aunties for anyway?
As you know, I have been digging my way out of my procrastination piles and this request was one of them.
I decided I would make two of my favorite totes for their great cause....and wait....in all my infinite wisdom, I figured since I'm already making two...might as well make three...I can put one in my Etsy Shop...hooray for infinite wisdom!
I do love making these totes, they are always so darn cute when they get finished. I gathered some of my fabric stash and wiled away a stormy Saturday completing yet another procrastination project.
Question is...I wondered...which one do I put in my shop? Which two do I give to the fundraiser.
Well, wouldn't you know, my infinite wisdom struck again! I COULD do my very first GIVEAWAY with one of these darn cute totes!!
Question is...which one?
I could not decide...just couldn't...they are all three so very cute and SOOOO....
I'm going to let the winner of the giveaway decide. Yep, the winner gets to pick the one they want and then I will give the other two to the Helix Charter High School band program for auctioning off at their fundraiser April 28th, 2012.
Here they are....cute as can be and functional too!
Each tote is made from strong vinyl coated screen. They have six pockets on the exterior, strong nylon handles that go all the way around the bag for extra sturdiness. They sport a custom trim and coordinating piping or rickrack. They are a super book bag, beach bag, diaper bag....just about anything bag!
SO....which one would you pick?
Here's how to enter my very first giveaway:
The rules are simple....enter in any or all of the ways listed below...once.
On April 24th 2012 all verified entries will go into this hat
The winner will be drawn by my grandson Aidan because he has already learned a valuable lesson on cheating and so it is certain he will honestly draw a random winner :)
Not very sophisticated or tech savvy, but hey, the hat does go with the theme!
The winner will get to pick the tote of his/her choice...how fun is that?

I am now following your blog! As well as liked you on facebook, and following on twitter I will also tweet about it and as far as music goes, it has had an impact on my life for a long time, I grew up listening to the oldies with my parents, then all through middle school and high school I was in band, played the clarinet, marched in marching band, it was such a great experience that I am so glad that I got to be part of, and now of course I love to dance when we go out and I listen to music constantly!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kari! That is such a sweet growing up memory, I love the "oldies"...thanks for sharing and entering my giveaway!
DeleteHi Susie, Love those totes! Here is my list.
ReplyDelete1. Music is such a big part of my life. My kids get tired of hearing me sing! Hardly a day passes by that someone doesn't say something that is a song lyric, and I can't help but sing it! Plus both my kids were/are in middle school band.

ReplyDelete1. I was raised in and around music, both of my parents are musicians and so it is only natural to have my kids learn an instrument as well. My oldest plays trombone in High School, my 2nd plays clarinet in middle school, and my youngest can't wait to learn the tuba when he gets old enough!
2. I am following your blog! Love it so far!

ReplyDeleteNope, you cannot have too many. Tell me which things you did specifically (each one is an entry) so I need to now how many times to put your name in the hat :)
DeleteFirst of all, I am a MARIE AND JULIE fan!! I have loved them ever since I worked with them at Ralphs...and so since I have deep love for them, I must love you too!
ReplyDelete1. Music has been in my life always. My parents were youth ministers at OLG and St. John of the Cross, so we were always around "big kids" and listened to their music. We cleaned the house with country music blaring on Saturdays. Now, my 10.5 month old daughter listens to the radio at night when she sleeps. I listen to almost every genre, and treasure all the memories songs bring to me.
2.I have visited your blog when Julie or Marie have instructed me to, but now I am an official follower.
3. I have now found and liked your facebook page.
4. I am now following you on Twitter.
5. I have tweeted about the #totegiveaway

I'm a Marie and Julie fan too! What wonderful memories music has made for you! There is no better way to be lulled to sleep than by some beautiful music...how sweet!

1. Music has been something I've loved since I was little. I remember learning to play the recorder in music class! I never really actually played an instrument, although I wanted to...Singing, dancing - did both of those - and they are both musically inclined. =)

DeleteWhat a fun tote, it would be fabulous for the pool or beach!
ReplyDeleteHere's my list:
1. I played classical flute in junior high and high school and did fairly well competitively. I still regret giving it up. Today I'm an avid "just listener" in the Israeli folk music community. I tried to pick the flute up again but found my classical training kept getting in the way of the type of music I wanted to play. Still, just listening has brought tremendous enjoyment and lightened my soul beyond measure.

DeleteMusic has always been a part of my life but I guess the best part would be listening to my baby play his music in his band. He is grown and out on his own now so I don't get to hear it as much. I framed one of his pieces of music that he created as a reminder. He has a gig coming up so I'm really excited to see him perform again. Thanks for the opportunity to win your lovely tote!
ReplyDeletePS - I am already a follower.
Indeed! I loved listening to my boys play when they were in the band. They played both symphonic and jazz (I have a strong appreciation for jazz because of them) How exciting that you will get to see him perform! Thank you for entering my giveaway!
DeleteI use music to sing praise and worship to God! :) I don't have a great voice (but I like to pretend I do when I sing in the car). I was a cheerleader in high school and enjoyed lots of different kinds of music through the years! :)

I love the flute, isn't it just such a sweet sounding instrument? Thank you for entering my giveaway!
DeleteI was the youngest of 4 kids, but always felt like and only child cause of the huge age difference between me and the older sibling. So when I was young, I would swing on the swings my dad made me and SING like a crazy person, believing that at only 5 years of age, I was preforming with my band in front of a huge audience...good thing we lived out in the country lol.

DeleteSuzie, your totes are adorable, what a great design! Music has always been a part of my life, and now we're passing that on to our children. All four can play at least one instrument, and the two middle ones play (bass and violin) with a group at church. There is almost always music on, or someone is singing, or practicing . . .

Music has always been recorded or via radio all my life until it came in upclose and personal with my children. Dr. Spock (or someone) said that babies cried cause they were deprived of noises after birth so you should leave a radio going in their rooms on low and they wouldn't feel alone. SO...when my babies were born we played a radio 24/7 on low in their rooms. Long story short my son is a concert musician with an MFA in music and has played in the USA Army Band for 9 years. He plays just about any brass instrument and piano like a pro...giggle. My daughter plays piano, bass clarinet and has a beautiful voice...she sang in the show choir, jazz choir and now sings with a Celtic music group. HL has a BFA and we are music and art saturated around here...but there is always room for more with the grandbabies!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautifully talented family you have! Sound like Dr. Spock got that one right! My kids school had visits occasionally from military bands, I wonder if their paths crossed? Thank you for entering my giveaway

ReplyDeleteMusic has always accompanied me throughout my life. All my joys, sorrows, heartbreaks. Each time I hear a song, a tune form the past, it instantly brings memories. Feelings back. It's a companion, a friend but inspiration, too. Life wouldn't be the same without it. It'd be so much duller and without emotion.

Music has always been a part of my life. I love to sing (i've been told im good at it... meh) and I used to play lead clarinet in the school band. My brother was also extremely musically talented. Any instrument he touched he could play you a tune on in 10 min and he is completely self taught. He can play anything
ReplyDeleteI am envious of your brother and I bet you are better than you give yourself credit for! Thank you for entering my giveaway...good luck!
Deletemusic is bliss..
ReplyDeletemusic consists of a wide range. when i'm angry i listen to certain songs which helps me to calm down. when i'm sad, there will be other songs that give me comfort and lulls me to sleep. then there's the kind of music that comes in handy when facing the monday blues. having to wake up early plus lack of sleep.. all these seems to disappear when i hear these songs. i somehow feel energized and excited to face a new day.
of course i also like to sing with an imaginary mic. just singing is not enough and now i'm even in the process of learning to play the guitar.
music plays a significant role in my daily life. it helps me to face the challenges each day and then to look forward to a new and glorious day.
I LOVE MUSIC!!

When I was a child, I took lessons in piano, violin, and flute. I learned that I was just average in these skills, hated to practice, and was destined to not be great. I did really well in school normally, so it was kind of a letdown, but good too, to be able to quit knowing I could still enjoy listening to music without being a musician.
